The Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation (CCF)'s 12th Annual Conference marked a milestone in global collaboration. It brought together scientists, academic researchers, advocates, industry partners, patients, and caregivers to identify the top research priorities in cholangiocarcinoma.
Through 10 specialized Working Groups, participants evaluated the current state of science and proposed focused, high-impact areas for future research funding. The discussions were insightful, and the participation of patients and caregivers added powerful perspectives.
CCF will prepare a single manuscript that captures the consensus priorities developed during the Conference. Once reviewed by Conference Co-Chairs and CCF’s Science and Medical Advisory Board, it will be submitted for publication in a peer-reviewed journal, a critical step in driving new funding and accelerating progress. More information will be coming soon!
The Foundation awarded 11 Research Fellowship Grants of $75,000 each to early-career investigators from select institutions, further supporting groundbreaking studies in cholangiocarcinoma. Since 2015, the Foundation has awarded 71 research fellowships totaling more than $3.83 million in seed funding to early-career investigators to raise awareness about cholangiocarcinoma (bile duct cancer) and inspire innovative, high-quality research.
The Mark R. Clements Awards, the Foundation’s highest honor, were awarded to 3 outstanding individuals whose contributions have had a lasting influence on the cholangiocarcinoma community. Christina Gambogi was recognized for Excellence in Community Impact, Toni Pham received the award for Excellence in Volunteerism, and Dr Lewis Roberts was honored for Vision, Innovation, and Collaboration.
The Foundation’s Inaugural Awards Dinner was a heartfelt celebration of progress, collaboration, and the strength of the CCF community. The evening brought together patients, caregivers, researchers, advocates, and donors to honor the individuals and donors driving meaningful change. With moments of reflection, gratitude, and inspiration, the event highlighted how far we’ve come—and the momentum we carry forward together.
The momentum from the Annual Conference will continue at the upcoming 2025 Portland Cholangiocarcinoma Symposium, which will take place on Friday, June 27, 2025, from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm at the Knight Cancer Research Building in Portland, Oregon. This 1-day event will bring together leading experts, researchers, healthcare professionals, patients, and advocates for a powerful day of connection, education, and collaboration.
The symposium will serve as a vital platform for sharing the latest advancements in research and care while also addressing the field's ongoing challenges. Attendees can expect a thoughtfully curated agenda, meaningful dialogue, and opportunities to engage with others who are driving progress in cholangiocarcinoma. Snacks, beverages, and lunch will be provided.
And looking ahead—save the date! The Foundation’s 13th Annual Cholangiocarcinoma Conference, marking CCF’s 20th anniversary, will occur May 1-3, 2026, in Salt Lake City, UT. We look forward to another powerful gathering as we continue to shape the future of research, care, and community.
