Early Education Empowers Patients and Caregivers

A diagnosis of cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) can be overwhelming for both patients and their families. Medical terminology, treatment options, and navigating available resources can create uncertainty and anxiety. Healthcare providers have the opportunity to empower patients with reliable, accessible information early in their journey.

To support this, the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation (CCF), with their Nursing Advisory Board, has developed the CCA 101 videos, a series of short, patient-friendly educational videos designed to provide essential knowledge about the disease. These videos cover key topics, including:

  • Understanding the diagnosis and terminology
  • The importance of biomarker testing
  • Treatments and what they mean
  • The role of nutrition in patient health
  • Resources and support provided by CCF
  • How to connect with the broader CCA community

Easy Access for Patients Through Electronic Health Records

To maximize accessibility, we encourage providers to share these videos with newly diagnosed patients and their caregivers. The videos are available at the link below, and a printable card for providers is here. The card can also be downloaded and printed for patients.

How to Include the Videos in Epic or Other Electronic Health Record Systems

To ensure patients receive this valuable resource, we recommend embedding the video link into electronic medical records such as Epic. You can follow these simple steps:

  1. Paste the URL: [Shortened Link] into AVS, MyChart, or another patient communication tool.
  2. Highlight the text.
  3. Press Control + K (or Command + K on Mac) to create a hyperlink.
  4. Paste the URL again in the hyperlink dialog.
  5. Save and share with the patient.

By integrating this educational content into the electronic health record, patients and caregivers will have easy access to trusted information at a critical time.

The Impact of Early Education

Providing early, accessible information can help patients make informed decisions about their care, improve communication with their medical team, and reduce anxiety about the unknown. When patients understand their diagnosis and available resources, they are better equipped to navigate their treatment journey.

Thank you for your commitment to supporting patients with CCA. By linking them to these valuable educational videos, you help provide clarity, connection, and confidence as they face this challenging disease.
